Data entry jobs are varied and plentiful but to keep up with the workload and the pace it is important that you possess the right skills from the outset. Learning basic computer or typing skills on the job is not going to be possible so be sure to build on your abilities ahead of time so you can focus all of your energy on learning the role or system specifics over the basics.

How could a candidate get an office job with no experience?
Not all roles require a vast amount of experience, you will often find that some of the big brands such as Lloyds and Capita that we recruit for provide some of the best role specific training there is and so little to no experience is not a blocker to career progression at all.
Temporary office work can be a great way to get started with an employer, it provides you with the opportunity to learn on your feet and gain a great understanding of the role and how it varies between sectors and industries. If you are considering taking on a temporary job why not read through our pros and cons of temporary or seasonal work to help you make an informed decision.
If you are concerned about your lack of experience you could make up for it through extra skills and learnt knowledge. Here are some tips to build on your skills and knowledge:
- Take a look at our office jobs to see what is required for the role.
- Start by creating a list of the skills appropriate, the skills you have and the skills you still need to get for the position you have set your sights on.
- Hunt for positions that give you the best opportunities to build on your skills, our office job board is a great place to find out what temporary office jobs or permanent office jobs are available right now.
- Build on your skills in your own time using platforms such as Udemy or Skillshare. Adult learning grants could also be a great way to get the skills you need.
Is there training provided?
From employer to employer, your training may vary. It could also depend quite a bit on the role you are going in to. Generally speaking, any of your responsibilities that are unique to the employer or use a particular piece of software would have full training provided to you. Your basic office skills however are all expected to be in place before you start working in an office.
If you feel you may be short on a few skills you can always upskill in your own time or request a training course from your employer. For more details on upskilling and turning your job into a career check out this post.
